# Roger Williams Park Zoo Crew Counselor in Training Zoo Crew Counselor in Training (CIT) is Roger Williams Park Zoo's summer teen volunteer program in Providence, Rhode Island. CITs work alongside the zoo's education staff during ZooCamp, the zoo's summer day camp, serving as near-peer role models for campers ages 4-10 while building their own leadership and communication skills at one of New England's oldest zoos. ## What You'll Do - Assist ZooCamp educators with daily programming during summer camp sessions - Encourage camper participation and model ZooCamp expectations for kids ages 4-10 - Help campers with skills during animal-themed activities, games, and crafts - Help maintain a safe and enjoyable camp environment while learning how a zoo's education team operates ## Who Should Apply Students in grades 7-12 who enjoy working with younger kids and want experience at an AZA-accredited zoo. Applications for the 2026 season have closed; the zoo typically opens CIT applications in the fall through the new year, so check the teen volunteer page or join the zoo's email list to be notified. The zoo also offers a separate Play Partner volunteer role for ages 16+ in the Hasbro's Big Backyard exhibit. ## Outcomes CITs finish the summer with real youth-leadership and informal science education experience, volunteer hours, and a working knowledge of zoo operations - a natural first step toward camp counselor jobs, docent roles, and animal science careers.
