What Is Fire & EMS Career Exploring?
Fire & EMS Career Exploring is a national framework delivered by local fire departments, EMS providers and government agencies through Explorer posts and clubs. Participants from sixth grade through age 20 combine classroom learning, supervised hands-on drills, facility visits, community service and career contact with firefighters, EMTs and emergency-services professionals. Exact ages, meeting dates, activities, added fees and openings are set locally.
The national participation fee is $50 per year, and a local post may charge more. The program is career exposure, not professional certification: Explorers do not replace trained responders and cannot perform prohibited emergency-scene tasks, drive apparatus or enter burning structures. Current youth-protection rules also govern any ride-along. Students join by locating a nearby unit or contacting the local Learning for Life office; enrollment is generally rolling when a post has capacity.
