# Fire & EMS Career Exploring Fire & EMS Career Exploring is the emergency-services track of Exploring, the career-exploration program of Learning for Life. It is delivered through local participating agencies - city fire departments and government agencies - which sponsor and organize numbered local groups called Posts. Explorers are not observers: posts combine classroom instruction with hands-on training under the supervision of working firefighters and EMTs. ## What You'll Do - Train with your post on fire and emergency response skills, mixing classroom lessons with hands-on drills - See firsthand what it's like to work as a firefighter, EMT, paramedic, emergency services coordinator, or shelter manager - Take part in community service and public safety outreach through your sponsoring department - Work toward Exploring's Law Enforcement and Fire/Emergency Services proficiency awards and recognitions - Explore related paths including search and rescue, ski patrol, lifeguarding, and fire inspection and investigation ## Who Should Apply Young men and women interested in fire or emergency services careers. Exploring posts serve youth ages 14 through 20; middle schoolers from 6th grade can participate through Exploring Clubs. You join by finding a sponsoring department near you through exploring.org. ## Outcomes Explorers report improved self-confidence, leadership experience, and a social network built around public service, plus college and career readiness preparation and access to Exploring scholarship opportunities. Many posts feed directly into volunteer or career positions at the sponsoring department. The annual program participation fee is $50; individual posts may add a local program fee.
