What Is John and Abigail Adams Scholarship?
The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is a Massachusetts merit tuition credit, not an extracurricular program or an open scholarship application. For students in the class of 2016 or later, DESE uses three high-school state-assessment results: Advanced on one of English Language Arts, Mathematics or Science and Technology/Engineering, Proficient or Advanced on the other two, and a combined score in the top 25 percent of the student's school district. Qualifying students are certified automatically and receive an award letter through their school in fall or winter of senior year.
The credit can offset required tuition for state-supported undergraduate study at an eligible Massachusetts public college or university for up to eight semesters, excluding summer, within six years after high-school graduation. It does not cover mandatory fees and cannot be combined with another tuition credit. Recipients must enroll full time, file FAFSA or MASFA as applicable, maintain a cumulative 3.0 college GPA and satisfactory academic progress, and continue meeting state-aid requirements.
