What Is American Legion Auxiliary Girls State?
ALA Girls State brings selected female high-school juniors together to create and run a simulated state government. Delegates join mock cities and political parties, elect officials and practice leadership through nonpartisan civic activities. Each American Legion Auxiliary department runs its own program, usually for about a week.
Students apply or seek nomination through a school counselor, local ALA unit or their department's program. Standing national guidance calls for students who have completed junior year and still have at least one high-school semester remaining. Citizenship or documented legal-presence requirements and any additional local eligibility rules should be checked with the department.
