What Is ARML Power Contest?
The ARML Power Contest is a twice-yearly collaborative mathematics contest modeled on the Power Round at the annual American Regions Mathematics League meet. A coach assembles and registers a team, downloads a themed problem set, administers a 45-minute session during ARML's multi-day fall or spring window, and uploads or mails the team's written solutions. Problems combine computation, conjecture, counterexamples, explanation, and formal proof around a developing mathematical idea. There is no formal team-size ceiling, although ARML warns that more than about 15 is unwieldy and says 10-12 experienced students may be needed to reach every part. The task is intentionally scalable: a small inexperienced team can solve some pieces while a large strong team remains challenged. ARML scores the submissions, returns results and comments to coaches, gives trophies to the top ten teams, and awards the Harry and Ruth Ruderman Award to the winner. Registration supports U.S., Canadian, and other international teams. As of August 20, 2026, the official page still shows the completed 2025-26 windows (November 1-16 and February 21-March 7) and has not announced 2026-27 dates. The current public registration page does not expose a fee; the legacy $50 figure is not safely current and has been removed. Participation is through a coach/team, not a direct individual application.
