What Is New England Young Writers' Conference?
The high-school program at Middlebury's Bread Loaf campus is the New England Young Writers' Conference (NEYWC), not the adult Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. NEYWC is a four-day residential writing workshop for high-school sophomores and juniors from New England and elsewhere in the United States.
The long weekend combines writing seminars, workshops, readings, and opportunities to work with practicing writers. Participation is school-gated: an English teacher or guidance counselor may nominate up to five students from a school, no more than two of whom may be selected. Admissions readers judge submitted manuscripts.
