What Is The School of The New York Times: NYC Summer?
NYC Summer Academy is an in-person pre-college program operated by The Institute of Media and Communication LLC under license from The New York Times Company. It is broader than journalism alone: courses use New York Times-informed practices to explore media, writing, business, politics, arts, culture, technology, current events, critical thinking, information literacy, and civic engagement. The 2026 program ran as four separate two-week terms in New York City from June 7 through July 31, with day and residential options. Eligible first-time applicants were students entering grades 10–12 in Fall 2026 plus graduating seniors, and all students had to be at least 15 by their first program day. The application required a short answer, recent English-language academic record, USD 50 fee, and English-proficiency evidence or consultation when applicable. Admissions were rolling. Per-term total attendance was USD 6,195 for day students or USD 7,695 for residential students; payment plans, discounts, and limited need-based scholarships were available. The 2026 terms are complete, and the next cycle's application deadline and prices have not been announced.
