What Is Carl Nielsen International Competition?
Odense Symphony Orchestra runs this established international solo competition around the violin, clarinet, and flute concertos of Carl Nielsen. The June 9–16, 2026 edition was for flutists of any nationality who were under 30 on the opening day. A pre-jury selected 24 competitors from video applications before live rounds in Odense reduced the field to three finalists performing with orchestra.
The 2026 application required three recent, unedited repertoire videos, identification and biography materials, disclosures concerning jury teachers, complete repertoire choices, and a nonrefundable USD 75 fee. The February 1 deadline and June event have passed. The next instrument, cycle dates, eligibility cutoff, fee, repertoire, and award amounts have not been announced. This is an open-age music competition, not a high-school-specific extracurricular.
