# Elks Legacy Awards The Elks National Foundation's Legacy Awards are family-tied scholarships for high school seniors whose parent or grandparent belongs to the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Each award is $4,000, paid as $1,000 per year across four years of undergraduate study at an accredited U.S. school, college, or university. They are separate from - and considerably less competitive than - the Foundation's better-known Most Valuable Student contest, because the applicant pool is limited to Elks families and awards are allocated by state. ## What You'll Do - Confirm your Elk sponsor's membership status: the Elk must have joined on or before the Foundation's cutoff date and remain a contiguous, dues-paying member through the following March 31 - Complete the online Legacy Awards application after it opens on September 1 - Report academics, leadership, and service, and submit the required essay materials - Submit before the February 1 noon Pacific deadline; winners are announced in late April ## Who Should Apply High school seniors who are the child, stepchild, grandchild, step-grandchild, or legal ward of a living, dues-paying Elks member. Great-grandchildren are not eligible. Awards may only be applied to accredited U.S. schools, colleges, or universities. ## Outcomes Recipients receive $4,000 spread over four years of college and join a national scholarship community; for the 2027 contest the Foundation lists 251 state-allocated awards plus 149 at-large awards to the best-scoring applicants regardless of state.
