What Is Discover FAA High School Competition?
Here, FAA means the University of Illinois College of Fine and Applied Arts, not the Federal Aviation Administration. The annual virtual contest invites current grades 9-11 who reside in the United States to respond to a Fine and Applied Arts competition brief with one original, individually authored entry. A student may enter only one contest once per year. Recent categories included architecture, art and design, dance, landscape architecture, sustainable design, theatre, and urban planning; applicants must use the new 2026-27 briefs rather than assuming every prior category returns.
Registration opened September 1, 2026. Registrations are rolling, and entries must be uploaded by February 1, 2027; the official page does not publish a cutoff time or time zone. Each category winner receives one scholarship to an eligible 2027 Illinois FAA summer program. The scholarship's dollar value, covered costs, transferability, and summer-program eligibility obligations are not posted.
