What Is GrubStreet Teen Summer Writing Fellowship?
GrubStreet's YAWP Teen Summer Writing Fellowship is a selective, tuition-free, in-person creative-writing program for Boston-area high-school students. The completed 2026 cohort selected 20 students entering grades 9-12 who both lived and attended school in Suffolk, Norfolk, Middlesex, Essex, or Plymouth County; Boston residents received priority. A fellow may attend only every other year, at most once as an incoming freshman or sophomore and once as an incoming junior or senior.
The core met at GrubStreet's Seaport center from July 20-August 7, Monday-Friday, 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Fellows wrote across fiction, nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, and cross-genre forms; workshopped feedback; met guest authors; used daily one-to-one instructor office hours; explored literary careers and college/workplace writing; joined weekly open mics; performed in an evening showcase; and were published in the YAWP anthology. Lunch and snacks were provided. An optional free fourth anthology-production week ran August 17-21. Successful core completers received an $800 stipend.
