What Is Pennsylvania Governor's School?
PGSS is a five-week residential programme at Carnegie Mellon University for Pennsylvania students who have completed junior year and will enter senior year. Participants study biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics and physics, take a laboratory course, and complete a team research project. The programme intentionally uses rigorous assignments but gives no grades, encouraging students to explore outside their strongest subject.
Team researchers prepare a written summary for the Journal of PGSS and present their work at the annual Scientific Symposium. Students live in CMU dorms with residence-life staff, who provide academic support and organize nightly social activities. The completed 2026 programme covered tuition, housing and meals.
