What Is Sadie Nash Summer Institute?
Summer Institute is Sadie Nash Leadership Project's six-week leadership-development program for young women and gender-expansive youth enrolled in high school in New York City or Newark. Participants meet Monday through Thursday for workshops on leadership, identity, power, privilege, feminism and social justice; choose electives; meet community leaders and activists; and take field trips to colleges and cultural or professional sites. The program has no academic or skill threshold, but applicants must not have completed Summer Institute before.
The completed 2026 program ran July 6-August 13 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at sites across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Newark. Participants could earn a $450 stipend based on participation. The 2026 application closed March 13 and group interviews occurred in April. The 2027 dates, application and stipend are not yet announced; the 2026 stipend and calendar should not be silently carried forward.
