# Johns Hopkins Internship in Brain Sciences (JHIBS) JHIBS is a summer research program run through the Johns Hopkins Department of Neurology that introduces high school juniors and seniors to careers in the neurological sciences. In-person interns spend eight weeks on the East Baltimore medical campus completing a mentored research project; a separate five-week virtual track extends the program to students far beyond Maryland. ## What You'll Do - Complete a research project guided by Johns Hopkins faculty, staff, and student mentors - Join clinical rotations with Johns Hopkins neurologists (in-person track) - Attend weekly educational and professional development sessions - Present your work at the close of the program ## Who Should Apply High school juniors and seniors interested in neuroscience, medicine, or mental health research. The in-person tracks are for students who live in Baltimore City - one route is open to Baltimore City Public High School students and another to city residents attending any school - with a focus on students from backgrounds underrepresented in the brain sciences. The virtual program is open to students anywhere in the U.S. or Canada who are enrolled full time toward a high school diploma. Applications are accepted December 1 through March 1 each year. ## Outcomes Interns finish with real neurological research experience at one of the world's leading neurology departments, exposure to clinical medicine, and mentors who can speak to their readiness for college science programs. Many alumni continue into neuroscience and pre-med tracks.
