What Is JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB)?
JLAB is an all-service national competition for JROTC cadet teams. Units begin with an online Level I team assessment, advance through later rounds, and top teams reach the Level III Championship at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. The Army Leadership Bowl uses curriculum questions, timed leadership stations, scenarios, an individual knowledge assessment, a reaction course, hands-on STEM, and Washington-area activities. The Academic Bowl emphasizes academic knowledge, critical thinking, and service-on-service competition.
Level I takes about one hour online in one sitting. All team members must be present, and a JROTC instructor proctors the assessment. The current Army page promotes a Summer 2026 championship but still displays a November 20, 2023 Level I deadline; that stale deadline is not valid for a current or future cycle. The current site also does not publish a reliable next registration date, team-size rule, grade restrictions, cost, travel coverage, or service-specific advancement rules.
