# Meyerhoff Scholars Program The Meyerhoff Scholars Program at UMBC is one of the country's best-documented pipelines into science and engineering doctoral study. It combines a four-year scholarship with a tightly structured cohort model: a pre-first-year Summer Bridge, group study, research placements, faculty and peer mentoring, and community service. Awards range from $5,000 to $15,000 per year for in-state students and $10,000 to $22,000 per year for out-of-state students, applied toward tuition, mandatory fees, and other expenses. ## What You'll Do - Submit a UMBC undergraduate admission application first (Early Action deadline November 1), then the Meyerhoff application on Scholarship Retriever - Ask a teacher, counselor, administrator, or mentor to submit a nomination - encouraged but no longer required - Submit letters of recommendation by the January portal close - If selected as a top applicant, attend one of two Meyerhoff Selection Weekends after invitations go out in late January - As a Scholar, join the Summer Bridge cohort, undertake faculty-mentored research, and work with the program's advising staff ## Who Should Apply High-achieving high school seniors interested in the sciences, engineering, mathematics, or computer science who plan to pursue a PhD or combined MD/PhD, and who are committed to the advancement of underrepresented groups in the sciences. Applicants should have completed a strong college-preparatory curriculum. ## Outcomes Meyerhoff Scholars earn UMBC degrees with substantial scholarship support and enter graduate and professional programs at high rates; the program is widely cited as a model for producing underrepresented PhDs in STEM.
