What Is MIT Battlecode?
Battlecode is an annual MIT competition in which teams write code for an autonomous player in a newly released real-time strategy game. Competitors work with pathfinding, resource management, distributed algorithms, communications, combat tactics, and strict per-turn computation limits; machine learning is not required and historically has not been central to the contest.
In 2026 anyone could create a team, upload a bot, enter scrimmages, and compete in the two Sprint Tournaments. The separate High School Tournament required every team member to be a high-school student. To be eligible by a tournament deadline, a team needed an uploaded bot and a correct eligibility profile; resumes for all members were required for the high-school and other non-Sprint tournaments.
