What Is Non-Trivial Research Fellowship?
Non-Trivial's Research Fellowship is a free, fully online, eight-week summer program for young people ages 14-20 who have not started university or other tertiary education. Fellows devote at least 10 flexible hours per week to an original research, policy, or impact project, working solo or with teammates. The program provides an individual facilitator, peer community, structured materials, expert Q&A sessions, and competitive project grants of up to $1,000.
The Fellowship is one stage in a broader pipeline. A single application can lead first to the Research Foundations program; Non-Trivial then plans to select about 200 Research Fellows for 2027, and a smaller group of completed Fellows may advance to Research Scholar status. The $10,000 scholarships advertised on the site belong to that later competitive Scholar stage, not to every Fellow. Successful Fellowship completion requires at least four facilitator calls, a good-faith completed project before Demo Day, sufficient participation, and an exit survey, and earns a certificate.
