What Is Posse Scholarship?
The Posse Scholarship is a nomination-based college scholarship and multi-year leadership program. A registered high school or community-based organization may nominate a student as early as the second semester of junior year, but the nominee must be in the first term of senior year when eligible for selection. Students need demonstrated leadership in school, community, or family, academic potential, teamwork, motivation, and an on-time nomination in a current Posse recruitment area. The program is open to all backgrounds and is neither a minority scholarship nor a need-based scholarship.
Nomination timing is local, generally in spring and summer before senior year. There is no universal October 1 deadline. Traditional recruitment currently covers Atlanta, the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York, and Puerto Rico. The Virtual Program recruits in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Tennessee, the Twin Cities, and Virginia. Exact catchment boundaries, eligible nominators, partner-college pairings, deadlines, and formats must be confirmed with the relevant office every year.
