What Is Rhodes Summer Academy?

Rhodes Summer Academy is a two-week residential precollege program at Rhodes College in Memphis. Students choose one college-level course, meet twice daily, live in shared campus housing, and participate in workshops, lectures, campus activities, and college-preparation programming. The 2026 courses spanned writing, chemistry, game design, economics, medicine, art, and other liberal-arts fields. Students entering grades 10–12 or international equivalents were eligible. Successful course completion with a grade of D or above earned two Rhodes College credits; whether those credits transfer is decided by the receiving institution, and unpaid balances can block transcript release.

The completed 2026 session ran June 21–July 2 and had a published $2,900 fee including tuition, room, board, most social activities, workshops, and facilities. Optional field-trip admission, books, supplies, snacks, laundry, merchandise, personal expenses, and a possible $50 bedding option were additional. Limited need-based aid was available to families with adjusted gross income below $80,000. Students had to show proof of health insurance, and all participants lived on campus unless Rhodes approved a special-needs exception.
