What Is Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS)?
SAMS combines virtual preparation, six residential weeks of STEM work at Carnegie Mellon and continuing engagement afterward. Students study mathematics and science, conduct mentored research, prepare a symposium presentation and develop writing and college-readiness skills. The Student to Scholar course carries credit under programme rules; individual STEM-course listings marked 2026 remain prior curriculum guidance.
For 2027, applicants must be current 11th graders, at least 16 by June 26, and U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Virtual Jumpstart is June 21-22, and the residential phase runs June 26-August 7. Participation in the required phases is expected, with overlapping programmes restricted. The programme welcomes eligible students and encourages applicants facing underrepresentation or resource barriers; that emphasis is not an exclusive ethnic eligibility rule.
