What Is Young Ambassadors Program?
The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Latino's Young Ambassadors Program (YAP) develops rising high-school seniors as community-conscious leaders in the arts, sciences, and humanities. It is open equally to students of all races and ethnicities; applicants do not have to identify as Latino or Hispanic, Spanish is not required, and the program is conducted in English.
The 2026 program began with Washington Week, June 21-27, a required seven-day pre-professional seminar at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Participants visited Latino collections, worked with museum professionals and experts, developed leadership and professional skills, and lived in shared hotel accommodations with adult staff and chaperones. The Museum covered round-trip travel, meals, accommodations, and program materials for that segment.
