What Is St. Gallen Global Essay Competition?
The former Wings of Excellence Award is a global graduate-level essay competition feeding the St. Gallen Symposium's Leaders of Tomorrow community. High-school and bachelor students are explicitly ineligible: entrants must be enrolled at master's level or higher at a research university and meet the cycle's age rule. About 1,000 students submit annually; the jury selects 100 for expenses-paid participation in the Switzerland symposium and three essay winners split CHF 20,000.
The next competition is expected to open in September 2026 and lists February 1, 2027 as the submission date, but its topic, exact cutoff time, updated birth-year rule, symposium dates and detailed 2027 rules are not yet posted. The prior cycle required an anonymous English essay of at most 2,100 words, a 200-300-word abstract, ID, proof of graduate enrollment, original individual work, complete citations and disclosure of every AI or editorial aid.
