What Is Stanford Medical Youth Science Program (SMYSP)?
SMYSP is Stanford Medicine's free, five-week summer enrichment program introducing eligible high-school juniors to science, medicine, research, and health professions. Stanford's current directories describe intensive science and health training plus mentorship from medical professionals, faculty, and college students. The program is designed to expand access for students from low-income, first-generation, and/or underrepresented backgrounds in Northern California. One current Stanford directory also says Northern and Central California, while the Stanford Medicine directory says Northern California; the live cycle application must control exact geography and background eligibility.
The completed 2026 cycle was widely documented from the then-live Stanford page as June 22-July 26 on Stanford's campus, with a March 23 application deadline, full-time weekday participation, and roughly 24 selected students. The former cycle-specific page now returns 404, so these dates and packet details are retained as historical secondary evidence, not projected into 2027. Stanford's current directories continue to list SMYSP as active but publish no 2027 opening, dates, counties, deadline, or application link.
