What Is Camp Metalhead?
The Steel Yard's Camp Metalhead is a two-week weekday day camp introducing teens to creative steel fabrication in Providence, Rhode Island. Professional artists and experienced makers teach MIG welding, oxygen-acetylene torch use, metal saws, grinders, heating, cutting, joining, bending, and polishing while students develop and build personal projects. The curriculum combines technical shop skills with idea development, design, and critical thinking.
The 2026 beginner camp served ages 14-18 from July 13-24, 10:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The official course catalog listed a $3,500 price and marked it out of stock; The Steel Yard also advertised full scholarships and sliding-scale tuition for eligible youth.
