What Is Hampshire College Summer Studies?
HCSSiM is a six-week residential mathematics program owned by the Yellow Pig Math Foundation, not a general Hampshire College arts program. Students spend four hours in morning classes Monday-Saturday, join a daily Prime Time Theorem, and work through evening problem sessions, with workshops, advanced mini- and maxi-courses, guest lectures, recreation, and close access to faculty. The emphasis is discovering, proving, modeling, and communicating mathematics rather than accumulating results or preparing solely for contests.
The completed 2026 session ran June 28-August 8 and cost $7,208 including tuition, a single dorm room, three daily meals, local terminal pickup, and recreation. Need-based aid was substantial, including free attendance for domestic households below $85,000 and possible travel grants. Hampshire College will close in December 2026, but HCSSiM is legally separate and says it will continue at a new campus in 2027. The new location, dates, price, and application schedule are not yet announced.
