What Is UMass Amherst Online Pre-College Programs?
UMass Amherst's online pre-college portfolio gives rising high-school sophomores, juniors, and seniors a live university-level learning experience from home. Courses meet synchronously three to five times weekly, primarily on Zoom, with Canvas-based assignments and projects between meetings. The 2026 slate covered business, primatology, Python with physics, project management, sport management, design, and multimodal college writing. Most courses ran for two weeks; the Summer Design Academy ran for three.
The completed 2026 credit-bearing fee was $1,985 for a two-week/two-credit course or $2,935 for a three-week/three-credit course, plus a $45 nonrefundable application fee and $500 post-acceptance deposit. Credits are pass/fail and transfer is not guaranteed. Limited need-based scholarships were offered. Applications required a one-page interest statement, transcript, and one teacher or counselor recommendation; international students supplied English-proficiency information unless exempt and a U.S. emergency contact. Summer 2026 is closed and 2027 details are not announced.
