What Is UNICEF USA National Youth Council?
The National Youth Council is an active UNICEF USA volunteer leadership role for young people ages 14-24—not a high-school-only program. Members elevate youth perspectives inside UNICEF USA and nationally by designing campaigns, supporting youth communities, advancing child-rights legislation, advising staff and organizational leaders, contributing to publications, speaking at events and promoting formal child-centered governance.
The current 2026-27 term runs August 3, 2026-May 31, 2027. Members commit 3-5 hours per week, attend a required Tuesday evening meeting, complete August virtual training and join a mandatory fall in-person retreat. UNICEF USA pays each member a $1,000 stipend and covers travel and lodging for the member and, when applicable, a chaperone for in-person activities.
