# Glisten National Student Council The National Student Council (NSC) is the student advisory body of Glisten, the national education organization formerly known as GLSEN. Glisten describes it as "a dynamic and empowering youth leadership and engagement program for high school students," made up of LGBTQ+ student representatives who give direct feedback on the organization's processes, programs, resources, and overall strategy. Unlike a school club, the NSC is a competitive national cohort selected by application, and accepted students are paid for their time. ## What You'll Do - Serve a one-year term on a national council of student representatives drawn from across the United States - Review and shape Glisten's student-facing programs, campaigns, and published resources - Advise staff on organizational strategy from a current-student perspective - Develop advocacy, facilitation, and public-speaking skills alongside a national peer cohort - Represent student voice in the organization's national work ## Who Should Apply "All current U.S. LGBTQ+ and allied high school students in grades 9-12 are eligible to apply." No prior organizing experience is required, and students apply directly rather than being nominated by a school. Applications for the 2026-2027 cohort are open until August 21. ## Outcomes Council members earn a $1,000 stipend, a year of documented national advisory work, and experience translating lived student experience into organizational policy - the kind of sustained leadership record that stands out well beyond a single club officer role.
