What Is Utah Shakespeare Festival High School?
The Utah Shakespeare Festival and Southern Utah University host this large school-team competition in Cedar City, Utah. The 2027 event runs September 30-October 2 and combines adjudicated acting, dance, music, and technical-theatre events with peer observation, workshops, and professional feedback. High-school teams may include ninth graders; public, charter, private, parochial, alternative, homeschool, studio, and qualifying after-school groups enter through the appropriate division. Individual students cannot register outside a school or eligible group team.
Events include Shakespeare monologues, duo/trio and ensemble acting scenes; Shakespeare-inspired dance duo/trio and ensembles; Renaissance-style solo, small-ensemble, and choral music; Tech Olympics; and technical/design portfolio review. Working professionals score or critique performances, and awards are offered by event and division. Prior-cycle acting awards included $1,000 SUU scholarships and a $500 Festival summer-training scholarship; current 2027 award terms require confirmation. Sophomores through seniors can separately seek one first-come SUU credit; its price and registration details are not stated on the competition page.
