# A.C.T. Young Conservatory The Young Conservatory is the youth training wing of American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco's Tony Award-winning regional theater. It offers theater training for students ages 8-19 that combines skill-building, creativity, and performance in a supportive environment, taught in A.C.T.'s downtown studios at 30 Grant Avenue. Classes run in fall, spring, and summer sessions, alongside private coaching, college preparation, and audition-based performance opportunities. ## What You'll Do - Take classes divided by age group: Juniors (grades 3-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and High School (grades 9-12) - Study acting fundamentals, musical theater, improvisation, physical comedy, and ensemble devising - Advance into audition-based productions and intensives, including the YC Summer Musical Theater Institute for advanced high school performers - Work with A.C.T.'s professional teaching artists in a working Tony-winning theater company ## Who Should Apply Students in grades 6-12 (and younger) at any experience level - no audition or prior experience is necessary to take class at the YC. Enrollment is by session and accepted in order of registration until classes fill; the Summer 2026 session ran June 8-August 7. Partial and full need-based scholarships are available, subject to class availability. ## Outcomes Students build acting technique inside one of the nation's oldest conservatory theaters, with a clear ladder from first classes to advanced audition-based intensives and college audition preparation. Many YC students continue into A.C.T.'s professional training pipeline or use YC coursework to prepare BFA audition material.
