What Is Voices of Now Mead Ensemble?
The Mead Ensemble is the public, Arena Stage-based branch of Voices of Now, a devised-theater program in which young artists work with theater professionals to create original autobiographical physical theater around questions that matter to their communities. It should not be confused with VON's school- and partner-restricted Jefferson, Fairfax County, Wendt Center, or community ensembles.
For 2026, students in grades 6-12 met in person at the Mead Center on Saturdays from 12:00-2:30 p.m., learned ensemble building, writing, movement, improvisation, and the VON playmaking process, and created a new piece for the April 25 festival. No prior performance experience was required. Tuition was $625, with payment plans and need-based aid available by contacting Arena Stage education.
