# WordMasters Challenge The WordMasters Challenge is a national language arts competition for students in grades 3-8 that builds vocabulary and verbal reasoning through analogies rather than spelling or trivia. Over 125,000 students from public and private schools across the United States participate each year. Schools compete in two divisions at each grade level - Blue for students of average to above-average reading ability and Gold for students with clearly superior language skills - so middle school teams can compete at the right challenge level. ## What You'll Do - Study a list of 25 challenging vocabulary words before each meet, customized to your grade and division - Take three 20-minute analogy-solving meets per year, held at your own school (testing windows in November, January-February, and March-April for 2026-27) - Count your team's top ten scores toward a maximum 200-point team score - Compete for individual and team national recognition across the three-meet season ## Who Should Apply Students in grades 3-8 whose school or homeschool group enrolls a team - ask a teacher or gifted coordinator to sign up. For 2026-27, online enrollment opened April 1 with an enrollment deadline of October 1 (late registration is possible), and a Team Leader administers meets and reports scores. ## Outcomes Students sharpen the vocabulary and analogical reasoning that feed directly into strong reading, writing, and future test performance, with national recognition for high scorers and teams.
