What Is Yale Book Award?
The Yale Book Award is a decentralized recognition program run by participating Yale regional clubs and individual alumni in partnership with local high schools. It honors an outstanding high-school junior of academic or intellectual promise and personal character. The recipient receives an appropriate book with a personalized Yale bookplate; some alumni present the award at a school ceremony.
Students cannot apply, self-nominate or campaign for the award. A Yale club or alumni sponsor chooses participating schools and agrees on local criteria with school officials, and the school selects the recipient. The award giver cannot be related to the student. Consequently there is no universal national nomination form, date or guaranteed one-award-per-school rule.
