What Is Youth Volunteer Corps?

YVC is an active network of local affiliates in the United States and Canada—not one national summer program called “Youth Volunteer Corps America.” Affiliates hosted by nonprofits, schools, municipalities, YMCAs, United Ways, Boys & Girls Clubs, volunteer centers, and community members offer planned, supervised, team-based service-learning projects for ages 11-18. Youth can choose which projects to join and how often, while trained and screened leaders add preparation, team building, education, and reflection.

Enrollment is decentralized: use YVC's location map, choose an affiliate, and confirm its current sign-up, project dates, capacity and waitlist. The network does not establish a universal rolling entry window. Local projects can run year-round, during the school year, or in summer; examples include single days, two-day projects, week-long service projects, and recurring service. Exact causes, calendar, capacity, required forms, transportation, hours, and accessibility differ by host.
