What Is 1517 Medici Project?
It supports high-school students, college students, and dropouts pursuing self-directed projects in science, technology, mathematics, the arts, or other fields. The project should be pursued for its own sake, not for a school grade or admission to another program.
Selected teams receive a minimum $1,000 no-strings-attached grant to move the project forward. 1517 states that it takes no ownership, intellectual property, or future equity. The team may also offer coaching, mentor and collaborator introductions, fundraising connections, and access to its maker/founder community, but no fixed duration, syllabus, acceptance rate, or follow-on investment is promised.
