What Is American Junior Academy of Science Annual?
AJAS is a national U.S. honor society and conference for high-school students recognized for outstanding original STEM research. The 2027 NAAS/AJAS Annual Conference is February 17-20 in Chicago, alongside the AAAS Annual Meeting. It is not a scored or ranked competition. Most delegates are selected under rules set by their state or regional Academy of Science, often through a junior-academy research competition. A student in a state or region with no academy route may apply as an At-Large Delegate; that committee reviews research quality, originality, rigor, geographic eligibility, and presentation readiness and may interview the student. The At-Large path cannot bypass an existing state route. Delegates present an original-research poster, discuss their work with peers and scientists, attend conference sessions, labs, tours, plenaries, and small groups, and prepare an elevator pitch and roundtable slides. Students who register, attend, and complete the required AAAS poster presentation earn lifetime AJAS Fellowship. Registration is $500 for every student and adult and is not yet open. Any delegate under 18 needs a separately registered and paid adult chaperone; one adult can supervise multiple students. Travel and lodging are extra and not yet priced. The current 2027 FAQ says no scholarship or financial assistance is available.
