# OSC STEM Institute The OSC STEM Institute (formerly the Summer Institute) is the Ohio Supercomputer Center's two-week residential summer program on The Ohio State University campus in Columbus. Small teams of Ohio high schoolers get accounts on OSC's supercomputers and use them to tackle real science and engineering problems - from network forensics to disease-spread modeling to game design - guided by OSC staff. The 2026 session ran May 31-June 12. ## What You'll Do - Work in a small team on a supercomputing-powered research project you present at the end of camp - Learn Unix, Python, and high performance computing fundamentals through lectures and labs - Tour research facilities such as the Byrd Polar Research Center and meet working scientists - Live in Ohio State dorms with meals, chaperoned activities, and campus recreation included ## Who Should Apply Ohio residents currently in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year of high school who want serious, hands-on computing experience. Applications for the 2026 session opened January 15 and closed April 1, with acceptances in April; the next cycle is expected on the same annual calendar. The $600 all-inclusive fee covers housing, meals, tuition, lab visits, insurance, and equipment - roughly a quarter of what the program actually costs OSC, so every participant is effectively on scholarship. ## Outcomes Alumni leave with a team research project, working knowledge of supercomputing and programming tools few high schoolers touch, and connections at one of the state's major research facilities.
