What Is SCAS Research Training Program?
SCAS RTP supports up to 25 California high-school students in conducting an original science or engineering project across an academic year. Each student must directly participate in experimental design, data collection, and analysis under a working doctoral-level scientist serving as mentor of record. SCAS can help look for a mentor but cannot guarantee a match, and applicants who already have a committed scientist receive priority.
Participants submit four short progress reports, attend at least three of four Saturday workshops, stay in regular contact with the mentor, prepare a judged scientific manuscript, publish an abstract in the SCAS meeting program and Bulletin, and present a poster at the mandatory annual meeting. Top paper/poster students may be chosen as SCAS delegates to the American Junior Academy of Science/AAAS meeting.
