What Is Anne Ford Scholarship?
NCLD's Anne Ford Scholarship awards $10,000, paid as $2,500 per year for four years, to a graduating high-school senior who will enter a full-time bachelor's degree program in the fall. The applicant must have a documented learning disability. Examples on NCLD's page include dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, Specific Learning Disability, or a documented math, reading, or writing disability. ADHD, autism, a physical disability, or another disability does not qualify alone; a student with another disability may apply when they also have a documented learning disability.
The multi-step online application requests eligibility, applicant and family information, academic history, accomplishments, FAFSA information and a detailed Expected Family Contribution, at least one recommendation, and three personal responses. The responses may be submitted as text, video, or audio. Learning-disability proof must be a PDF, such as an IEP or formal documentation from a school psychologist, counselor, licensed psychologist, or psychiatrist; NCLD says photos are not accepted. Financial need is considered, and reviewers seek a compelling account of leadership, service, and potential advocacy for people with learning disabilities rather than only top grades or athletics.
