What Is BEAM Summer Programs: Discovery and Summer?
BEAM has two local summer entry points for mathematically curious students from lower-income communities in New York City and Los Angeles. BEAM Discovery is a five-week, nonresidential day camp for current sixth graders/rising seventh graders. BEAM Summer Away, the first summer of the long-term Pathway Program, is a three-week residential experience for current seventh graders/rising eighth graders.
Discovery combines about 90 hours of logic, problem solving, puzzles, games, student-selected math courses, activities, and field trips. Summer Away provides about 80 hours of proof-based and problem-solving mathematics on a college campus plus staffed residential life and field trips. Both are free; BEAM includes program activities, transportation, and meals, with lodging and all meals included for Summer Away.
