# Bridge to Enter Advanced Mathematics (BEAM) BEAM is a nonprofit that helps students from low-income communities study advanced mathematics and thrive in STEM. Its summer pathway starts in middle school: 6th graders apply to BEAM Discovery, a summer day program, and 7th graders apply to BEAM Summer Away, a residential program - both offered in New York City and Los Angeles. Everything is free, including all activities, field trips, transportation, and weekday breakfast and lunch. ## What You'll Do - Apply with your family during the annual January-March application window, then take BEAM's Admissions Challenge (offered at partner schools or on Saturdays) - Spend the summer doing real mathematics - logic, number theory, combinatorics-style problem solving - taught by passionate instructors - Join field trips and community activities with classmates who love math as much as you do - At Summer Away, live on a college campus for the residential program ## Who Should Apply 6th and 7th graders in New York City or Los Angeles, particularly students from low-income communities and schools underrepresented in advanced math. Families apply directly; students at BEAM partner schools take the Admissions Challenge at school. ## Outcomes BEAM alumni enter high school with genuine advanced-math experience and stay connected to a community that supports them toward STEM degrees and careers. The program is completely free, and admission is selective, making it a meaningful early credential for aspiring mathematicians.
