What Is Careers in Science (CiS) Intern Program?
The California Academy of Sciences employs eligible SFUSD students in a paid, multi-year science internship beginning in June and continuing through high-school graduation. Entry applicants must be full-time ninth or tenth graders, meet the academic and work-authorization requirements, and be able to commute to Golden Gate Park and nearby sites.
Interns earn above minimum wage while conducting outdoor fieldwork, teaching museum visitors, attending twice-monthly science and professional-skills training, and participating in college visits and STEM events. As they progress, they join research or environmental-action project groups, serve on the leadership council, and may receive one-to-one mentorship from Academy experts.
