What Is Youth Mental Health Academy?
Child Mind Institute's Youth Mental Health Academy is a paid, 10-month hybrid program for eligible Los Angeles County high-school students ages 15-18. The 2026-27 cohort began with a five-week Summer Academy, June 22-July 23, 2026, Monday-Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students studied mental-health disorders, completed a capstone research project, and received college/career preparation while earning a project-based-learning stipend of up to $1,750. Monthly virtual workshops and mentor check-ins continue from August 2026 through March 2027.
Current eligibility includes attendance at a public or private high school in Los Angeles County, a minimum 2.5 GPA, interest in mental health, age 15-18, and proof of personal health insurance. The program strongly encourages students from structurally marginalized backgrounds but says all eligible students are welcome. The 2026-27 application is closed; the next cycle and its requirements are not announced.
