What Is SMASH Residential?
SMASH Residential is a free, one-year STEM program centered on a residential university experience. Scholars study computer science, college success, and electives; build projects; network with STEM professionals; and join a peer and mentor community. Current regional sites serve Atlanta, Boston, Detroit/Ann Arbor, and the Bay Area, with recent residential campuses including Morehouse, Spelman, Northeastern, UC Berkeley, and the University of Michigan.
Applicants must be in grade 10 or 11, have at least a 3.0 GPA and strong grade-level standardized mathematics skills, attend a public high school or a private school on scholarship, and demonstrate strong interest in computer science education and a CS career. Geographic target-school and radius preferences apply. The completed 2026 application closed March 1 and its July 11-31 residential session has ended; no 2027 dates are announced.
