What Is Georgia Governor's Honors Program?
GHP is a highly selective, four-week residential program for current Georgia high-school sophomores and juniors with exceptional talent and interest in one academic or creative area. Students study their nominated major in morning and afternoon classes and join evening social, cultural, and instructional activities. Areas span agricultural science, writing, computer science, engineering, math, music, sciences, social studies, theatre, visual arts, dance, and world languages.
Students cannot self-apply: a Georgia public district, independent school, state charter, or the designated public district for a homeschooler must nominate them after a local process. Nominees then complete a state application, recommendation, and transcript review; selected semifinalists interview or audition. More than 4,000 students are nominated annually, and roughly 20% or fewer attend.
