What Is Mathematical Olympiad Program?
The Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP) is the Mathematical Association of America's intensive, invitation-only summer training program for exceptional mathematical-competition students. It is the end of a long qualification path, not a camp that a student can apply to directly. Students normally begin with AMC 10 or AMC 12, advance to AIME, then qualify for USAMO or USAJMO; MAA invites Olympiad performers and certain U.S. international-team students to MOP. The current MAA page confirms that the 2026 program has already taken place.
MAA describes the established model as a three-week residential program with advanced instructors, proof-based mathematical development, community activities, and residential staff. Instruction and evaluation focus on high-level problem solving in areas such as algebra, geometry, combinatorics, and number theory. Performance at MOP can lead to Team Selection Test invitations and possible U.S. IMO or EGMO team selection, but MOP attendance does not itself guarantee a test invitation or international team place.
