What Is USA International Mathematical Olympiad Team?
The United States does not offer a public application called “International Mathematical Olympiad Team Member.” The Mathematical Association of America selects the six-person USA team through a sequence of increasingly selective examinations and invitations. A student begins at a registered AMC 10 or AMC 12 competition site. Exceptional scorers are invited to the three-hour AIME; combined AMC and AIME scores determine invitations to the two-day USAMO or USAJMO proof examination. Olympiad participants may be invited to the Mathematical Olympiad Program (MOP), a select group takes Team Selection Tests, and those tests determine the USA IMO team.
For 2026-27, AMC 10A/12A are November 5, 2026 and the B exams are November 13. MAA publishes site-registration deadlines of September 30, October 15, and October 28, with different fees and restrictions, but its page still labels 2025-26 registration closed and does not clearly state that the new portal is open. A student therefore works through a school, university, library, math circle, or other approved competition manager; the manager registers the site and enrolls the student. AIME dates are still TBD. USAMO and USAJMO are invite-only on March 20-21, 2027.
