What Is James Dyson Award?
The James Dyson Award is an annual international competition for early-career design engineers. The brief is broad—design something that solves a problem—but judging rewards clear problem definition, iterative development, clever and workable engineering, technical feasibility, commercial viability, and relevant sustainability. The 2026 entry window is closed and national, Top 20, and global judging continues through November.
Every entrant must be at least 18. An individual must be a current undergraduate or postgraduate student who has completed at least one semester in engineering, design, or a related discipline at an institution in an eligible country, or have graduated from such a course within the preceding four years. Teams may contain up to ten people; every member must be 18+ and a current/recent university-level student, and at least the lead must meet the qualifying-discipline rule. It is not open to grades 11-12 merely because a student likes STEM.
