# Michigan Tech Summer Youth Programs Summer Youth Programs (SYP) at Michigan Technological University brings nearly 1,000 students to Houghton, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, for week-long explorations every summer. High schoolers register for the grades 9-11 track and choose from hands-on courses spanning engineering, computing, natural sciences, business, and outdoor career exploration. In 2026, sessions run weekly from June 14 through July 17. ## What You'll Do - Spend a full week inside one exploration, taught with Michigan Tech labs, equipment, and instructors - Live in a university residence hall and eat in the dining hall as a live-in participant, or attend as a commuter - Get a realistic preview of college life and STEM study on a research university campus - Join students from across the country and around the world ## Who Should Apply Students currently in grades 9-11 who want an immersive, single-subject deep dive. Base tuition is $1,175 per week for the live-in option and $700 for commuters; lab fees vary by course. Several scholarship opportunities are offered, and some corporate-sponsored courses run at little to no cost. Registration is per-session and stays open until courses fill. ## Outcomes Participants finish a focused week of college-level exploration, experience residential campus life early, and can sample different STEM and business fields across multiple summers before choosing a college path.
