What Is NASA HUNCH (High School Students United?
NASA HUNCH is a school-based project-learning partnership in which students design or fabricate real products addressing NASA and astronaut needs. Depending on the participating school and assigned project, tracks include design and prototyping, precision hardware, softgoods, software, culinary, communications or media, biomedical science, and flight configuration. Students work through iterative design, fabrication, testing, reviews, and documentation with teachers and HUNCH mentors. NASA evaluates products for possible training, mission, or flight use; participation never guarantees that student work will fly.
For 2026-27, teachers register classes through November 1, 2026. New teachers and schools must first apply and be accepted. Teachers then invite students, who complete their own registration and release forms by March 1, 2027. Students do not apply independently to a national NASA internship: they participate through an accepted school, teacher, course, or team. Costs, schedules, available tracks, equipment, travel, and selection differ by school and region.
